Prayer for Fear: A Biblical Prayer for Courage, Faith and Peace
Fear can come from danger, uncertainty, health concerns, financial pressure, conflict, bad news or a future you cannot control. Scripture does not tell believers to pretend fear never exists. It repeatedly shows people bringing fear to God and being called toward trust, courage, wisdom and faithful action.

What does the Bible actually say about fear?
The Bible includes many commands not to fear, but those commands are usually grounded in a reason: God’s presence, faithfulness, power, promises or the truth of the gospel.
“What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee.” Psalm 56:3, KJV
Psalm 56 is especially helpful because David does not claim fear never comes. He describes what he does when he is afraid. The movement is from fear toward trust.
Other passages work differently. Isaiah 41:10 is God’s covenant reassurance to Israel. Joshua 1:9 is spoken to Joshua in a specific commission. 2 Timothy 1:7 encourages Timothy toward faithful witness rather than fearfulness. Each passage should first be read in its own setting.
A prayer for courage when you know what you need to do
Prayer for Courage
God, I know the next step I need to take, but I am afraid. Keep me from delaying obedience simply because courage feels uncomfortable.
Give me strength to act without becoming reckless. Give me humility to listen, wisdom to prepare and courage to do what is right.
Keep my words truthful and loving. Keep me from using fear as an excuse to avoid what You have clearly placed before me.
Help me remember that courage is not the absence of fear. It is faithfulness in the presence of fear. Amen.
A prayer when you are afraid of the future
Future fear often grows because the mind tries to solve events that have not happened yet. Jesus addresses this directly in Matthew 6:34 by teaching His disciples not to carry tomorrow’s anxious burden today.

Is all fear bad according to the Bible?
No. The Bible uses the word “fear” in more than one way. “The fear of the Lord” can describe reverence, awe and proper submission to God. Human fear can also function as a warning response to real danger.
The problem is not that every feeling of fear exists. The problem is when fear becomes the ruling authority over faith, truth, love and obedience.
